Iranian attack hits Amazon cloud operation in Bahrain, says FT

Amazon’s cloud operation in Bahrain was damaged after being hit by an Iranian attack this Wednesday, 1st, according to the newspaper Financial Times. The attack comes a day after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard threatened to attack major American technology companies such as Apple, Google and Meta if more Iranian leaders were killed in “targeted assassinations”.

According to Bahrain’s Ministry of the Interior, civil defense teams were fighting a fire at the facilities, but did not detail which company was involved.

“From 8 pm Tehran time (1:30 pm Brasília time) on Wednesday, April 1, these companies will have their units destroyed in retaliation for each murder committed in Iran,” the guard said in a statement, in which it listed 18 companies that it considers complicit in the “selective assassinations” of authorities.

Amazon reported on Monday, 23, that the operation of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing platform, in Bahrain was “interrupted” amid the war in the Middle East. The information is from the news agency Reuters.

An Amazon spokesperson said the outage was due to drone activity in the area. The company said it is providing support to affected customers to help them migrate to other AWS operations.
