
The Ertzaintza arrested a 45-year-old man this Friday for his alleged involvement in the violent death of his partner, a 44-year-old woman, which occurred this Wednesday in a home in the Biscayan town of Basauri, in a case that is being investigated as sexist violence, as reported by the Basque Department of Security.
This past Wednesday, a 44-year-old woman of Spanish nationality was found at her home, who had apparently suffered “an alleged illness” and was treated by the health services, although their attempts to save her life were unsuccessful, as confirmed to this newspaper by La Ertzaintza.
Hours later, the forensic analysis carried out to clarify the causes of death determined that it may have been a violent death. The investigation opened since that moment by the authorities in relation to this event has led the Basque police to arrest the victim’s partner. This is a 45-year-old man, also of Spanish nationality, who is accused of an alleged crime of homicide in the area of sexist violence.
So far this year, 14 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners. Since official statistics began in 2003, there are 1,357 women.
