Senator Eliziane Gama joins the Workers’ Party (PT)

Eliziane Gama, senator from Maranhão, announced this Thursday (2) the exchange of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) for the Workers’ Party (PT). In a note, shared on social media, she thanked the four years she spent in Gilberto Kassab’s party, but emphasized that ‘a new cycle begins’. “Today I begin a new cycle alongside President Lula, who invited me and personally endorsed my membership in the PT.”, he wrote. “We continue together, united by our commitment to social justice and a more equal and supportive Brazil.”, he added.

In the farewell note, she explains the reason for the exchange. “I learned from mistakes and successes, which strengthened me a lot. During this period, I was guided by the principle of ethics, good dialogue and I had a harmonious relationship with my peers,” he wrote. “The PSD decided to follow a new political path in the country, I respect it, but I have a different mindset, public in Brazil.”, he added.

Gama, who is expected to run for re-election in 2026, thanked Kassab for the welcome and left a special thank you to “senators Omar Aziz and Otto Alencar, former governor Paulo Octávio, the senators and deputies of this great party and the other supporters and leaders of the party.

Support for Lula

In a video shared alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Eliziane Gama said she was “closer and more aligned with President Lula than ever”. “I have just joined the PT to follow the purpose that has always guided my public career. This decision is born from what I believe and what Maranhão needs. More opportunity, more protection for those who need it most and more strength to continue moving forward.”, he wrote.

“I follow the same path, with even better conditions to fight for social justice and a fairer Brazil for everyone.”, he added.

Caiado announced pre-candidate

The senator’s decision comes in the same week that the . The announcement was made on Monday (30), at an event in São Paulo. In his first speech as a pre-candidate, he declared that he will run for election with the aim of pacifying Brazil by “amnestying everyone, including the former president, I will be giving a sign that, from then on, I will take care of people”, stated Caiado.

During the speech, Caiado still thanked the reception from the PSD. The native of Goiás stated that Gilberto Kassab’s party has a “solid structure in the country”. The pre-candidate signaled to the governors of Paraná and Rio Grande do SulRatinho Jr. and Eduardo Leite, and said that his colleagues are “well evaluated and prepared” to compete for the Planalto.
