Gulf countries support UN resolution that seeks to guarantee navigation through Hormuz

The initiative, however, faces resistance from Russia and China, which have veto power

At a meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council this Thursday, 2, Bahrain requested that a resolution be put to a vote on Friday that calls on countries to use “all necessary means” to guarantee international transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

The initiative, however, faces resistance from Russia and China, which have veto power.

In the same session, the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Albudaiwi, stated that Iran’s retaliatory attacks against neighbors “crossed all red lines” and defended that the bloc’s six countries be included in any negotiations or agreements with Tehran on regional security.
