Italian journalist Claudia Conte
Faced with rumors about an alleged extra-marital relationship with the Italian Interior Minister, journalist and TV presenter Claudia Conte admitted that “it’s something I can’t deny, but I’m very private about my private life”. The minister feels “run over by a train”.
Journalist, writer and radio and television presenter Claudia Conte revealed this week that he has an extramarital relationship with Italy’s current Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosimarried and father of two daughters.
In an interview with the website, Conte was invited to comment rumors that were already circulating over a alleged affair with the government official responsible for conducting migration and security policies in the country.
“It’s something I can’t denybut I am very private about my private life,” said Conte.
The interview was conducted by Marco Gaetani, leader of the National Youth, the youth organization of the Brothers of Italy party (FdI), led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The revelation gave new breath to opposition criticismwhich seeks to take advantage of the government’s moment of fragility, after the defeat in the referendum on judicial reform, on March 22 and 23, mainly due to the fact that Conte was appointed, on February 12, consultant to a parliamentary committee inquiry into degradation on the outskirts of Italian cities.
The role was unpaid, but before that, in 2024, the journalist had been invited to present a program on the public channel RAIin collaboration with the State Police, a force that depends on the Ministry of the Interior, notes the ANSA agency.
Piantedosi did not comment publicly the case, but close sources say he claimed feeling “hit by a train”.
“We don’t go into private issues, but the minister has to clarify the public elements. Piantedosi cannot take refuge in silence”, declared the deputy Debora Serracchiani, of the center-left Democratic Party (PD).
The government’s closest circles they would have known for some timeof the relationship between Conte and the minister, who was reportedly advised to end the case due to the woman’s “dangerous” profile.
Meloni also questioned Piantedosi about the matter last Wednesday, and sources from the prime minister’s office stated that the minister reassured her and denied any inappropriate aspects of the relationship.
Last week, the government lost the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchèpressured by Meloni to resign due to her problems with the justice system, following the defeat no referendum. Despite the turbulence, the prime minister assured that she intends to fulfill her mandate until the end, in 2027.
