Almost 40 years after the trail of contamination in Goiás, the series Radioactive Emergency it humanizes statistics and brings faces to the tragedy. The production mixes fictitious names with rigorous historical research to show how curiosity about a “bright blue powder” destroyed entire families.

The Junkyard Core

  • Devair Ferreira (Real) → Enevildo (Bukassa Kabengele): The owner of the junkyard who bought the capsule from collectors Roberto and Wagner. In real life, Devair survived the initial radiation but bore the blame for his family’s contamination.

  • Maria Gabriela (Real) → Antônia (Ana Costa): Devair’s wife. She was the one who became suspicious of the material and had the courage to take it by bus to the Health Surveillance Department. His action prevented an even greater catastrophe, but it cost him his life.

The Symbol of Tragedy

In the series, the character Celeste recreates the innocence of the child who was enchanted by the lethal glow. She and Maria Gabriela died on the same day, in October 1987.

The series also pays homage to figures such as José de Júlio Rozental (CNEN) and the doctor Nelson Valverdeworld references in radiopathology who worked on the treatment of victims.
