The consumer organization dTest warns of frauds in which perpetrators impersonate children of fraud victims in order to lure money from them. However, it does not always have to be a scam, so it is important to know how to react. Silvia Čakajdová informed TASR about this from the organization. “The best protection against fraud is not to respond to messages from foreign numbers. Unfortunately, a situation may arise when someone close to the consumer asks for help. If he requests to send money, the consumer should make a short call or a video call for verification, so that he can be sure that it is a person he knows,” said Čakajdová.
As she explained, in all cases it is possible to request more information. If the attack is not targeted, the perpetrator will not even know basic information, such as the name of the person he is pretending to be. “Even though it can be a stressful situation when the person loses their mobile phone and has to borrow it, it shouldn’t be a problem to provide data that a stranger should not know in one more message,” thinks dTest director Eduarda Hekšová. In addition to the first name, it can be the date of birth, place of residence, name of the partner or pet.
