Federal agents arrest niece and great-niece of slain Iranian general: Sharp move after Rubio move

Two family members of slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani have been arrested by federal agents in the United States after their residency permits were revoked. This was announced on Saturday by the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TASR writes, according to reports from the AFP and Reuters agencies.

  • The arrested women lost their legal permanent residency status in the US.
  • Marco Rubio also canceled the stay of relatives of Ali Larídžání and banned them from entering.

“Last night, the niece and great-niece of Iran’s ill-fated Revolutionary Guard Major General Qassem Soleimani were arrested by federal agents after Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked their lawful permanent resident status,” the US Department of State said that they are in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Soleimani’s niece is, according to the US Department of Diplomacy, “a supporter of the totalitarian terrorist regime in Iran, she praised the new supreme leader and denounced America as the ‘Great Satan’”.

Soleimani was the commander of the Quds special forces responsible for foreign military operations of the Islamic Republic. He died in January 2020 in an American drone attack in Iraq. At that time, Iran responded with missile attacks on Iraqi bases where American soldiers were stationed.

Rubio revoked the legal permanent residence statuses of the daughter and son-in-law of the slain former secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijjani. They are not currently in the United States and will be denied entry in the future.
