Iran sees the Strait of Hormuz as "a strategic advantage" and warns that nothing will be "as before"

They assured this Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz will never be definitively changed again with the beginning of the offensive unleashed on February 28 by the United States and Israel.

“The Strait of Hormuz has become the new conditions of security and will never have the status it had before“, declared the spokesman for the Presidency of the Iranian Parliament, Abbas Goudarzi, who this week announced the beginning of legislative procedures to impose a navigation cost on ships transiting the strait, to be paid in the national currency, the rial.

In comments collected by the semi-official agency Tasnim, Goudarzi assures that “the management of this important waterway It is in the hands of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iranand no country will have the right to transit through it without Iran’s permission, and Iran will defend this strategic position with all its military power.”

In recent weeks, Iran has allowed the passage of ships flagged or destined for countries that have openly rejected the joint operation of the United States and Israel.

In the last few hours, for example, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, has confirmed that two Turkish-owned ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since the start of the conflict.

The Iranian parliamentary spokesman has warned that Iran has not the slightest intention of giving in to the pretensions of the United States and that “the path of the Islamic Republic is neither commitment nor surrender, but resistance to consolidate Iran’s position in the new world order.”

Claims the downing of two American planes

The Iranian Armed Forces claimed responsibility this Friday afternoon for the downing of a United States A10 aircraft near the Strait of Hormuz, on a day in which the downing of an F35 fighter from the North American country has been confirmed.

“An hour ago, an A10 aircraft of the American Zionist enemy aggressor was intercepted and attacked in southern waters, around the Strait of Hormuz, by the country’s air defense systems,” the Army said in a statement broadcast on the state television channel IRIB.

“We attacked an enemy plane south of the island of Qeshm and it sank in the waters of the Persian Gulf,” the military added, without giving further details.

New attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant

The Iranian authorities have reported this Saturday that American and Israeli planes have attacked the vicinity of the Bushehr nuclear plant, in a bombing that has resulted in one death, and the petrochemical industry area in the province of Khuzestan, with no confirmed victims in this case at the moment.

The attack on Busehr took place around 08:30 this morning, local time (06:30 in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands), when a projectile hit “near” a security fence.

“Due to the blast wave and shrapnel from this attack, one of the annex buildings of the power plant was damaged and, unfortunately, one of the employees of the plant’s physical security department died instantly,” a worker at the facility told the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

“Initial investigations indicate that the incident did not cause damage to the main parts of the power plant and that its operation was not affected,” the agency reported before recalling that this was the fourth attack against the nuclear power plant since the beginning of the US and Israeli offensive on February 28.

The Iranian authorities also emphasize that the plant is operational and, “due to the presence of significant quantities of radioactive materials, any serious damage could pose the risk of a large-scale nuclear accident.”

The bombing in Khuzestan has been confirmed by the provincial government itself to the Mehr agency. The projectiles have hit the large Bandar Imam petrochemical facility, “in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone”, which has reported damage of an unspecified extent.
