STF sentences businessman from SC to 14 years for acts of January 8

Alcides Hahn made a R$500 Pix for the bus company that took protesters from Blumenau to Brasília in January 2023

The (Federal Supreme Court) sentenced Santa Catarina businessman Alcides Hahn to 14 years in closed prison for his involvement in the acts of January 8th. The decision was taken on March 2, 2026.

The Attorney General’s Office denounced Hahn for having transferred R$500 to pay for a chartered bus that took protesters from Blumenau (SC) to Brasília after the 2022 elections.

The Santa Catarina businessman was convicted for 5 crimes: violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, qualified damage, deterioration of listed property and criminal association. The appeal would be judged on March 20 of this year, but was removed from the agenda.

Hahn and 2 other men financed the charter of a bus used to transport protesters from Santa Catarina to the events in Brasília. Rene Afonso Mahnke transferred R$1,000 and Vilamir Valmor Romanoski, R$10,000. None of them traveled to the capital.

The PGR appointed Romanoski as a “leadership figure” of the mobilizations in favor of Bolsonaro in Blumenau. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, he organized the recruitment of protesters and purchases of supplies.

In a hearing at the STF, Hahn declared that he made a Pix following the request of an acquaintance. According to the businessman, the person had asked to borrow money to travel without specifying the destination. The owner of the bus company stated that, when identifying the transfer, he assumed that the value referred to the charter of the trip in question.

Hahn’s defense argued to the Supreme Court that the PGR’s complaint was based exclusively on the Pix of R$500 made to the bus charter company. The lawyers maintained that there was no proof that the amount was intended to finance a trip or that the businessman was aware of a possible crime. The information is from UOL.

  • collective moral damages: R$30 million;
  • name of defendants on the list of culprits;
  • issuance of a definitive execution guide;
  • payment of costs by those convicted.
