Driver admits to having been drinking before running over children in Diadema

O driver who ran over and killed two children in Diadema (SP) last Friday (3) he told the police that drank before driving and what if confused with the car pedals at the time of the accident. According to the police report, he said he put the vehicle in motion and unable to brake after the accelerator stuck.

Demóstenes Dias de Macedo, a 64-year-old retiree, was driving a Hyundai Creta and two of them, brothers aged 6 and 10, died. Two others were injured.

In testimony, the driver admitted to having drunk alcohol before driving. An examination carried out at the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Santo André confirmed that he was drunk.

He was arrested in the act and had his arrest converted into preventive custody after a custody hearing. The case was registered as intentional homicide and bodily injury. Witnesses reported that the driver tried to flee after the collision, but was restrained by people who were at the scene.

About veulogy of the victims was held in Diademaand the bodies were taken to Alagoas, where the burial will take place. The family had support from residents and the city of Taquarana (AL) – the city where the bodies were taken for burial – to pay for the transfer.

The two children who survived remain hospitalized, and one of them must undergo surgery. The local community organizes tributes and demonstrations calling for justice.
