Attacks in Iran: Explosions on an oil island, bridges and railways left at least two dead

Iran’s key oil island of Khark and railway bridges near Tehran faced a series of strikes. Israel and the US are targeting infrastructure just before the ultimatum expires.

The Iranian island of Khark, which is a key hub of Iran’s energy infrastructure, was hit by several strikes on Tuesday, the state-run Mehr agency reported. According to local authorities and the media, two bridges in the area of the cities of Kom and Kašán were also targeted, killing at least two people. The Israeli military has since announced that it has ended a large-scale wave of strikes targeting infrastructure facilities across Iran. TASR informs about it.

  • The island of Chárk became the target of several attacks.
  • Bridges near the cities of Kom and Kašán were also hit.
  • The Israeli and American military attacked the infrastructure in Iran.
  • At least two people died in the attacks, and others were injured.
  • The US president has threatened further attacks if Iran does not back down.

Khark Island, which lies about 25 kilometers off the coast of Iran in the Persian Gulf, provides about 90 percent of the Islamic Republic’s oil exports. The United States bombed this island before during the war with Iran. US President Donald Trump recently threatened to completely destroy the island if Iran does not quickly accede to the agreement and open the Strait of Hormuz.

The Axios news portal reported shortly after the Mehr agency’s information that the United States launched strikes on military targets on the island of Khark. A US-Israeli attack on a railway bridge in the city of Kashan, south of Tehran, left two dead and three wounded, a security official in Isfahan province said, quoted by the IRNA agency.

Israel issued a warning

Iranian media also reported strikes on the highway connecting the city of Tabriz with Tehran via Zanjan and on the railway line in the city of Karaj in the northern part of Iran. According to the media, a bridge near the pilgrimage town of Kom, south of Tehran, was also hit. Hours earlier, the Israeli armed forces had warned Iranians against traveling by train or staying near railway tracks.

“A short while ago, Israeli armed forces completed a large-scale series of attacks targeting dozens of infrastructure facilities belonging to the Iranian terrorist regime in several areas across Iran,” the Israeli military said in a later statement.

The new attacks occurred hours before the expiration of the ultimatum that US President Donald Trump gave to Iran if it does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened Tehran that “hell will rain down” on it in the form of attacks on power plants and bridges unless it ends its blockade of the strategic strait by Tuesday evening Washington time.
