Mayors assess that Alckmin has the potential to benefit Haddad in the interior of SP

The performance of the Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), in the interior of São Paulo, could benefit the pre-candidate for the State government, Fernando Haddad (PT). This is the assessment of mayors in the region heard by the column at the 68th State Congress of Municipalities, which takes place until Wednesday (8) in the capital of São Paulo.

Under condition of reserve, the mayors reinforced that Alckmin continues to be a highly beloved person within the State, especially by the heads of the Executive. The current vice-president, who was governor of São Paulo four times, is still fondly remembered for the various meetings he held with representatives of various municipalities. Many were vice-presidents or held other positions while Alckmin was in charge of Palácio dos Bandeirantes, and today they are mayors. The reports are of a certain nostalgia regarding Alckmin’s management in the São Paulo government.

The column even found that Alckmin had coffee with some people recently, while he was on a schedule in São Paulo. A recent example occurred at the end of March, when he and President Lula were at the Embraer Unit Airfield, in the city of Gavião Peixoto. As Jovem Pan showed, the PT will not only boost its and Lula’s ticket, which will be reissued in 2026, but also Haddad’s.

The party’s strategy is to use the political capital that Alckmin maintains in the interior to help present a more moderate image of Fernando Haddad to the electorate. The assessment is that Alckmin would neutralize Haddad’s image with sectors more resistant to the PT, attracting mainly centrist voters, who today may be close to the current governor who will seek re-election, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).
