The president of the BC (), , confirmed that he will testify on Wednesday (8) to the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of the . The meeting is scheduled to start at 10am.
The information was given by the president of the commission, Fabiano Contarato (-ES), during a meeting this Tuesday (7) and confirmed by the press office of the Central Bank. Galípolo was invited to participate in the CPI and, therefore, his presence is not mandatory.
The approved request to invite the president of the monetary authority, presented by the senator (Novo-CE), justifies the statement by mentioning Galípolo’s meeting with the president (PT) and the owner of , , .
“The presence of a director from the Central Bank of Brazil in a meeting of this nature, involving an economic agent under investigation, raises legitimate questions regarding the institutional purpose of the meeting, its content and the limits of the actions of monetary authorities in sensitive situations from a regulatory and investigative point of view”, says the document.
“Considering that the Central Bank plays an essential role in the supervision, inspection and stability of the national financial system, it is essential that this commission has full clarification about the reasons that motivated Mr. Gabriel Galípolo’s participation in the aforementioned meeting”, he adds.
The meeting was before the financial fraud scandal was known to the public.
