Galípolo must appear at the Organized Crime CPI to talk about the Master case

The president of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo, must accept the invitation and appear at the Organized Crime CPI to talk about the case involving Banco Master, owned by Daniel Vorcaro. The information was confirmed by the newspaper Economic Value.

The session will take place on Wednesday (8). The commission also hopes to hear from the former president of the BC, Roberto Campos Neto, so that both can clarify the agency’s actions in relation to the liquidated Banco Master and its owner, Vorcaro. Campos Neto has not yet confirmed his presence.

The invitation to Galípolo responds to a request from Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), who wants clarification on the BC’s actions and also on a meeting at Palácio do Planalto, which took place in November 2024, in which President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Galípolo and other members of the government would have met with the banker.

In the justification, Girão states that the intended hearing “is not aimed at the technical activity of the Central Bank itself, but at the need to ensure institutional transparency and remove any doubts about possible undue political or economic interference in inspection and control processes of the financial system”.

Campos Neto must clarify the authorization granted to the banker, in 2019, to take control of the former Banco Máxima, later renamed Banco Master. Another point to be addressed is the involvement of BC employees in a network of contacts that would provide Vorcaro with privileged information.

“The experience accumulated by Roberto Campos Neto at the head of the Central Bank places him in a privileged position to contribute to an equally important prospective dimension for this Commission: the identification of regulatory gaps and the proposal of institutional improvements that can strengthen the capacity of the national financial system to resist the infiltration of criminal organizations”, defended the author of the invitation made to Campos Neto, the CPI rapporteur, Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE).
