An oil refinery on the Iranian island of Lavan was attacked on Wednesday. It happened just a few hours after the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran. The refinery on the island of Lavan was the target of a “hostile, insidious attack”, Iran’s Mehr agency reported, citing the national oil company. Firefighters are working to put out the fire, which caused the attack, they got it under control.
No one was injured in the attack. It was not immediately known where the attack came from. Láván Island has an area of 78 square kilometers and is located on it one of the four largest terminals used by Iran to export oil and natural gas.
According to the Mehr agency, explosions were also heard on the island of Sírri, but nothing more is known about them. This island is home to a port and an airport, as well as oil and gas processing and storage infrastructure.
