Moraes releases PT action seeking to restrict plea bargains for trial

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes released for trial in the Court’s plenary an action presented by the PT that seeks to restrict the use of plea bargains.

The Workers’ Party’s action has been under Moraes’ reporting since July last year. The objective of the text is to reduce the power of denunciations, preventing agreements from violating individual fundamental guarantees.

In one of the sections, the party asks the Supreme Court to declare that the plea bargain cannot be used as evidence without the presence of other elements that support the receipt of complaints, convictions or precautionary measures.

The PT also requests that the STF regulate and define the benefits that can be granted to whistleblowers who sign collaboration agreements.

The release of the action for trial occurs at the same time that Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, negotiates a plea agreement with investigators.

The names of Moraes and his wife, lawyer Viviane Barci, have appeared in recent documents produced by the investigation.

In 2024, the Barci de Moraes office and Banco Master expect a monthly payment of R$3.5 million, lasting three years. The information was confirmed by Viviane, who stated that the office provided consultancy and legal services to the bank between February 2024 and November 2025, a period in which 94 meetings were held, 79 of which were at Master’s headquarters.

Documents produced by the Federal Revenue indicate that payments declared by Banco Master to Viviane’s office, Barci de Moraes, reached the amount of R$80.2 million during the period. The office denied what it classified as “incorrect and illegally leaked information”.

Lula asked Moraes to leave the Master case

This Wednesday (8), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that he had asked Moraes to step away from the case involving Banco Master and declare himself prevented from participating in the trial.

“I told him: ‘You built a historical biography with the January 8 trial. Don’t allow this Vorcaro case to throw your biography away,’” said Lula. “Comrade Alexandre knows that it damages the image. You can have something that is legal, but, in the circumstances in which it happens, people treat it as immoral. And in a political year, in which people will give a lot of attention to this”, he stated, in an interview with ICL News.

In the interview, Lula anticipated that the issue should be used by the right during this year’s electoral campaign and, therefore, said he had asked Moraes to comment on the matter and stay away from the trial.

“I told him: ‘tell him that your wife is a lawyer, I just promise that here in the Supreme Court I will be prevented from voting’, anything, anything that conveys to society the firmness that he has”, he commented.
