Jasveen Sangh, also known as the “Queen of Ketamine”, was sentenced to 15 years and three months in prison on Wednesday for selling the drug to actor Matthew Perrywho died as a result of its use. TASR informs about it according to AP and AFP reports and NBC News television.
Sangh’s is one of five people charged and the third convicted in the death of the popular Canadian-American actor. Actor Chandler Bing from the series Friends died on October 28, 2023 at the age of 54 to the acute effects of ketamine and subsequent drowning.
Ketamine queen to illegally sell drugs to Perry she admitted last fall. She has been in custody since her arrest in August 2024. According to investigators she sold Perry dozens of doses of ketamine in unmarked vials and she also offered him samples so he could try the goods before buying. The last dose she gave included a gift: ketamine lollipops.
The prosecution asked for 15 years in prison for her, but she was initially threatened with up to 65 years. “The Sangh’s actions show a cold callousness and indifference to life. She put profit over people and her actions caused immense pain to the families and loved ones of the victims.” the prosecutor’s office said.
Perry’s body was found by his assistant at his home in Los Angeles. The medical examiner ruled that he was the main cause of death ketamine, which is usually used as a surgical anesthetic. Perry used it legally, on the advice of his doctor within treatment for depression, but wanted higher doses than his doctor could provide. Therefore, about two weeks before his death, he contacted the Sangha through his friend.
Perry has struggled with drug addiction for many years – already since the filming of the series Friends, when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing. Between 1994 and 2004, Perry starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer in ten seasons of the NBC mega-hit.
