The recurring threat of hackers Russians or linked to Russia returns to the foreground, if it ever stopped being so. This time it is Germany who has given the warning of cyber attacks by a group of hackers deeply rooted in the Russian power ‘apparatus’.
The alert has come from the hand of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitutiona German organization whose warning has been joined by numerous international security agencies such as the FBI itself.
Your notice comes from the recent actions of the Russian group APT28also known as Fancy Bear o Forest Blizzardand which is linked to the Russian military intelligence service, the GRU.
According to the Federal Office, the hackers Russians would have infiltrated vulnerable TP-Link internet routers around the world to obtain military, government or critical infrastructure information. The official publication includes thousands of public access devices affected by attacks by APT28 cybercriminals.
After detecting the mass attacks, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution proceeded to identify the operators of the hacked routers. The large-scale notice was given on March 13, along with a series of security instructions to shield its systems, especially against possible future attacks of a similar nature.
The German organization adds that many of these TP-Link routers have been replaced by more updated units and, therefore, better protected against illegitimate interference as is customary by the Russian group APT28.
This is an old acquaintance from Germany. There he managed, the Teutonic authorities recall, to launch a series of attacks on Parliament national, the Bundestagin 2015.
Almost a decade later he successfully carried out two other criminal operations, with computer attacks on headquarters of the Social Democratic Partythe SPD (whose leader, Olaf Scholz, was the head of the Government at that time), as well as against german air traffic control service in August 2024.
