The Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin participated in the launch of the Biodiesel Alliance, formed by the Association of Biofuel Producers of Brazil (Aprobio) with the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove).

Together, the two entities bring together 16 biodiesel manufacturers with 33 active plants, according to members, equivalent to 63.7% of the Brazilian industrial park in biodiesel production.

For Alckmin, biodiesel is strategic especially at times when international conflicts affect the fuel market.

“Instead of importing diesel, which is very subject to global geopolitics, we produce our product here, for our country”, he highlighted.

According to the vice president, the Brazil is the only country in the world that contains 30% anhydrous ethanol in gasolinein addition to 85% of the fleet of flex-fuel vehicles, that is, which can be fueled with ethanol or gasoline.

Geraldo Alckmin assesses that “there is no more positive agenda than this. It speaks to all sectors”. According to the vice president, The use of biodiesel improves air quality, reduces pollution and cases of respiratory problems.

The vice president also remembers that biodiesel production has social effectsbecause it involves small farmers and generates employment throughout the industrial and service production chain.

“If we are world champions in agriculture, we have the most competitive and efficient tropical agriculture in the world, we will add value: produce biofuel, help the environment, the health of the population, generate jobs, income, avoid importing products and strengthen our country’s economy”, he summarized.

Alckimin also highlighted the federal government’s initiatives to guarantee fuel supply and reduce the price impact of diesel and gasoline amid the rise in the cost of oil amid the conflict in the Middle East.

“The federal government zeroed PIS/Cofins, added a subsidy to it, and invited the states to participate. It didn’t force anyone, but invited the states to participate to go half and half. The government contributed 60 cents, the municipality and the state with the same amount. The majority of states, almost reaching unanimity, the majority agreed”, he recalled.

On Tuesday (7), the government published a series of measures to eliminate PIS/Cofins on biodiesel and reduce the impact on the prices of cooking gas and aviation kerosene.
