Carris files complaint against doctor suspected of disability pension scheme

Carris filed a criminal complaint against the doctor who charged a thousand euros to obtain disability pensions, reported in the SIC Investigation shown yesterday. Dozens of the company’s workers would have resorted to this scheme in recent months. Meanwhile, the doctor canceled her appointments and has not yet returned to her office in Santo Estêvão.

These days, anyone who had an appointment scheduled was surprised by a phone call from the receptionist informing them of the change in plans.

“The doctor had some people scheduled for today and I had to call to let them know. I’m the one who’s delivering the envelopes for people to deliver to Social Security for retirement,” he explained.

The case gained dimension, and, only in Carris, after using the services of this doctor.

At SIC, the company explained that it became suspicious due to the high number of workers with certificates issued in Benaventea place that did not correspond to the residence of the majority, and because all documents were signed by the same doctor.

A user reported to SIC that it was not the doctor who told him about values, but rather an acquaintance.

“He worked at Carris and was retired due to disability. He was also exhausted, but he managed to get a pension of almost two thousand euros a month,” he said.

When asked about health problems, he replied: “He invented a lot of problems (…) he managed to present reports and immediately went on disability retirement.”

Carris filed a complaint with the Public Ministry in August. The institution did not clarify to SIC what steps have been taken since then.

A investigation also revealed that the doctor passed exams in the private sector using credentials from a nursing home in Samora Correia, so that they were paid for by the National Health Service.
