How to care for blueberries to get large harvests?
Blueberry is a fruit shrub often chosen for Polish gardens. It copes very well in our weather conditions and does not require excessive care. In summer, the bushes are full of juicy fruits, which are used in desserts, porridges and baked goods. It is worth knowing that the first blueberry harvest is not the most plentiful. Only in the following years does the bush bear more fruit. The most frequently chosen varieties are Bluecrop and Chandler blueberries.
Blueberries grow best in places with a pH of 3.8-4.8. Peat and sawdust from coniferous plants work well to achieve such soil acidity. The soil for growing blueberries should be rich in humus with medium permeability. Watering is very important. Blueberries have high water requirements. The above-mentioned peat or sawdust helps keep the litter moisture at a high level. It is worth enriching the blueberry substrate yourself. Thanks to this, the bush will always have access to what it needs. Classic peat will work well for this purpose. Once a month, prepare 1 bucket of peat and mix it with the soil around the blueberries. Peat will quickly nourish the soil and make the harvest more abundant. Rainwater is best for watering blueberries. Its acidic reaction will additionally support the good condition of the bushes.
Always water your blueberries with this in April. In the summer I collect whole baskets of fruit
Home methods of fertilization focus on the acidity of the soil. If the soil around the bushes is too alkaline, you can acidify it with home remedies. Apple cider vinegar will work great for this purpose. Just mix half a cup of vinegar with 4 liters of water and water the blueberry bushes with the prepared solution. Repeat this operation once a week until the soil pH is around 5. Thanks to this, the blueberries will grow better and their crops will be more abundant.
