FBI arrests US Army veteran for leaking classified information

A US Army veteran was arrested on Tuesday (7) after allegedly leaking confidential information, the FBI reported on Wednesday (8).

The agency reported that 40-year-old Courtney Williams was indicted by a federal grand jury after disclosing “classified national defense” data to unauthorized individuals, including a journalist.

Williams worked for a Special Military Unit between 2010 and 2016, holding a “Top Secret” level security clearance. She also reportedly signed a confidentiality agreement.

According to the FBI, between 2022 and 2025, Williams repeatedly maintained contact with a journalist, having more than 10 hours of telephone conversations and more than 180 messages exchanged.

He reportedly asked for information about the Special Military Unit and later published a book, citing the veteran as a source.

After the book was published, Williams reportedly contacted the journalist, stating that she was “concerned about the amount of confidential information being released”, adding that she “could be arrested”.
