Government wants to implement E32 in the 1st semester, says Silveira

The Minister of Mines and Energy, (PSD), stated that the government intends to move forward in the 1st semester with the adoption of the so-called E32, a measure that increases the mixture of ethanol in gasoline – the composition would increase to 32% ethanol. The speech was made at Latam Energy Week 2026, evento on energy held this Wednesday (April 8, 2026), in Rio.

According to Silveira, the initiative is part of a strategy to increase Brazil’s energy self-sufficiency amid a scenario of global instability. “We want to advance this biofuels policy to make the country increasingly independent”these.

For Silveira, expanding the mixture is a way to protect yourself, especially in the face of international conflicts that directly impact the price of fuel. The federal government has plans to increase the mixture to up to 35% of ethanol added to gasoline, with .

The decision comes at a sensitive time in the global energy market. The minister stated that the government has adopted emergency measures to contain the effects of this instability, such as reducing taxes and granting subsidies to avoid transfers to consumers.

In this context, Silveira argued that countries with a diverse energy matrix, such as Brazil, should prioritize self-sufficiency strategies. “We cannot remain dependent on a war that we do not control”he stated.

The minister also highlighted that the biofuels policy places Brazil in a strategic position on the international stage, by combining oil production with renewable sources.

Silveira stated that the federal government has a clear strategy to reduce Brazil’s dependence on fossil fuels, with a focus on strengthening energy self-sufficiency.

According to him, the international scenario reinforces the need for the country to protect its strategic interests, especially in light of the actions of powers such as China in the development of technologies and resources.

The minister also defended a policy of valuing rare earths (a group of chemical elements present in the soil), which adds value to national production. “We have a strategy of self-sufficiency in what is so important and strategic for the Brazilian people”these.
