US First Lady Melania Trump denied on Thursday in an unexpected statement that she ever had ties to poor sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. TASR informs about it according to the AP, Reuters and AFP agencies.
“The lies linking me to the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein must end today. Those who lie about me lack ethical standards, humility and respect. I do not object to their ignorance, but rather reject their malicious attempts to smear my reputation.” declared the first lady. World agencies report that Trump’s words came out of nowhere and it is not clear why she decided to speak about the scandal.
“False images and statements about Epstein and I have been circulating on social media for years. Be careful what you believe. These images and stories are completely false.” she stated. “I never had any knowledge of Epstein’s abuse of his victims. I was never involved in any way. I was not a participant. I was never on Epstein’s plane and I never visited his private island.” says the first lady of the USA.
Epstein was found dead on August 10, 2019 in his cell at a New York City jail where he was awaiting trial on charges of sexual abuse and trafficking of minors. The medical examiner established the cause of death as suicide by hanging. Trump also called on the US Congress to hold public hearings aimed at survivors of Epstein’s crimes. “Every single woman should have her day to tell her story publicly if she wants to. Then, and only then, will we know the truth.” added.
