The acting director of the CDC (United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), Jay Bhattacharya, postponed the publication of a report that showed benefits of the vaccine for due to concerns about the methodology. The information was published by this Thursday (April 9, 2026).
The document was scheduled to be released on March 19 at scientific journal of the CDC. The suspension was confirmed, on condition of anonymity, by 2 scientists who know the case.
The document presented data on healthy adults vaccinated between September and December last year. According to a summary obtained by The Washington Postthis population showed a 50% reduction in the likelihood of seeking emergency departments and urgent care.
The same group had a 55% reduction in the probability of hospitalizations related to Covid-19. The comparison was made with people who did not receive the 2025-2026 vaccine dose. According to the newspaper, the study used methodology also used in other vaccine effectiveness estimates published in peer-reviewed journals.
The CDC is subordinate to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, led by the secretary known for his positions against vaccination.
