LONDON, April 10 (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Friday that he discussed the military capabilities and logistics of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz when he spoke to US President Donald Trump a day earlier.
‘We’re bringing together a coalition of countries… working on a political and diplomatic plan, but also looking at military capabilities and… the logistics of actually moving vessels through the Strait,’ Starmer said during his visit to the Gulf.
‘That was the focus of the discussion last night — reflection on what I have been discussing here, but also a focus on a practical plan regarding navigation through the Strait.’
He did not provide further details.
Asked whether he raised US threats to withdraw from NATO under Trump, Starmer did not respond directly, but said the alliance was in the interests of the US and Europe.
“NATO is a defensive alliance that, for decades, has kept us much safer than we would otherwise be,” he declared.
