Cheaper fuel next week

Drop of 5.5 cents on diesel and 3 cents on gasoline. Only in “weeks” will prices return to pre-war levels.

It was the sector that shook prices most quickly since the war in Iran began: fuels.

With traffic restricted, or even prohibited, in the Strait of Hormuz, oil tankers began to be stranded and a barrel of oil began to become more expensive.

Only since the second week of March (the first time that prices have risen considerably), each liter of diesel it was left 52 cents more expensive in Portugal; the Gasoline rose 28 cents per liter.

Starting next Monday, fuel will be a little more cheap.

ANAREC, the National Association of Fuel Dealers, points to a reduction of 5.5 cents per liter of diesel and 3 cents for gasoline.

It is a slight recovery but still far from the prices that were seen until February: the diesel will circle the 2,08 euros per liter, to Gasoline costs close to 1,91 euros.

And this return to pre-war values will still take time: according to António Costa Silva, “it will take weeks.”

In a radio interview, the former Minister of Economy and former president of the oil company Partex warns that the Oil transportation is still delayed and, in addition, it is necessary to evaluate the damage caused by the war in power plants of Iran.

Costa Silva also highlights that there is a lack of 15 million barrels of crude oil on the international market – due to the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.
