Meet the Dutch woman who makes gloves for Cher, Dua Lipa and other stars

The creations of the Dutch haute couture glove designer, Jeanne Hermanshave made it all the way to Hollywood and have been worn by stars like Cher, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus. Several of his videos presenting the pieces went viral on social media.

Despite global success, Hermans still makes everything by hand in his small studio in the Netherlands. Glove production is a rare craft today, but the designer has built her career around it. Interns from all over the world travel to his modest studio in Zaandam, a quiet town about 20 km north of Amsterdam, to learn the techniques of this .

She discovered the art of making gloves while studying tailoring in Amsterdam, after experimenting with leather techniques found in a book. With low start-up costs, gloves became a practical way to launch his brand in 2017. Although he initially considered leather glove production a “dying craft”, Hermans says the strong interest in his workshops suggests the practice still maintains global appeal.

The designer describes her creations as something in between, moving away from the traditional style of opera gloves. According to her, it boosted visibility more than sales themselves. Most designers find their work through Instagram, where a weekly glove design challenge has helped grow their following.

Hermans currently runs the business full-time with her sister, balancing international demand, teaching, and design — all while seeking to expand the brand without losing the artisanal DNA and small-team philosophy that underpins her label.
