A was born from the trajectory of Nelson Costa. The founder, of Portuguese-French origin and with a degree in psychology, ended up following a different path by dedicating himself to the production of ice cream. His training took place in Italy, namely at Carpigiani Gelato University, in Bologna. Along with his studies, Nelson Costa also completed an internship at an ice cream shop in Florence.

Italian technique and daily practice

The experience acquired in Italy influenced the production model adopted. The production of the delicacies sold at São Gelados is done daily, from a laboratory located in Olhão, guaranteeing freshness and direct control over the process.

The choice of ingredients follows specific criteria. Products such as seasonal fruit and fresh milk are used, avoiding the use of artificial colorings. Sugar is used in a controlled manner and the quantity is adjusted only to guarantee the texture and balance of the ice cream.

Another distinctive element of the project is related to gluten-free eating. All ice creams available are suitable for people with celiac disease, including cones. This option results from the founder’s personal experience. Its condition led to the creation of an offer that ensures food compatibility without altering the production process.

Olhão as a starting point

As for the location of São Gelados, Olhão was the city selected among several options as it met favorable conditions for access to local raw materials. The city’s identity and connection to the region’s products influenced the decision to install the ice cream shop.

The offer varies throughout the year and the flavors follow the rhythm of the seasons, adjusting to the availability of fresh ingredients. Among these proposals, there is the Olhão folar ice cream, which integrates elements of traditional local sweets in a version adapted to gelato.

Affordable price as an additional factor

The price is another highlighted element. While a scoop of ice cream costs 2.90 euros, two scoops cost 4 euros and three costs 5.50 euros.
