Do it in April with strawberries, in the summer you will collect baskets of fruit. Strawberry care in spring

Strawberries are graceful fruit bushes that are often chosen for home gardens and allotments. Juicy fruits taste delicious to almost everyone, and the short fruiting time makes them worth eating during the season. The most frequently grown varieties in Poland are Polka, Elsanta, Alba and Asia. Advanced gardeners may also want to try the White Pineapple variety. This is a connoisseur’s variety of strawberries with white fruit with a delicate flavor and a hint of pineapple.

Early spring is a very important date. The bushes should be prepared for the growing season. Only thanks to these treatments will they set fruit. In the first step, remove all old, remaining organic residues. Old leaves, stems and shoots may be a habitat for rot and fungal pathogens responsible for diseases. The next stage is loosening the soil around the strawberries. Strawberry seedlings have a shallow root system, so the soil should be loosened to a maximum of 2-3 centimeters. This treatment will greatly aerate the substrate and limit the proliferation of weeds.

A very important care procedure to be performed in early spring is fertilization. they need vitamins and minerals that strengthen the root and stem systems after winter, and will also stimulate the development of leaves and fruits. In April, it is best to use fertilizers with a high content of organic nitrogen. This ingredient supports the growth of leaves and stimulates. Nitrogen additionally takes part in the processes of photosynthesis, which makes it one of the most desirable elements during the growing season. Nettle slurry is most often recommended for fertilizing strawberries. The so-called nitrogen bomb provides the plant with the necessary ingredients and has a positive effect on their development. To prepare the slurry, you will collect about 1 kilogram of fresh nettle. Place it in a large bucket and pour plenty of water – preferably rainwater. Cover the opening of the bucket with gauze and set aside for about 2 weeks. They stir the solution every day to speed up the fermentation processes. Ready-to-use slurry should stop foaming and be slightly brown in color. Before applying to strawberries, dilute with water in proportions 1:10. Water your strawberries once a week throughout the growing season.

You can also use manure fertilizer to nourish tomatoes, cucumbers and flowering shrubs.

Sprinkle this around the strawberry bushes. A quick way to nourish the substrate

In the context of ecological fertilization of strawberries, wood ash appears to be a valuable alternative to artificial fertilizers. It is a rich source of potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium – key nutrients that support flowering, fruiting and overall immunity of plants. Moreover, wood ash helps deacidify the soil, which is beneficial for strawberries that prefer a slightly acidic to neutral pH. However, remember to use only ash from hardwood, not chemically treated, and apply it in moderation so as not to harm the plants. Sprinkling a thin layer around the bushes in spring or autumn and then gently mixing it with the top layer of soil is a proven method.
