. According to the regulation of the Minister of National Education, the last day of school will fall on Friday, June 26, 2026. This means that the 2026 summer holidays will officially start on Saturday, June 27. This is a day earlier than a year ago, when the holidays started on Saturday, June 28. Summer holidays in Poland always start on the Friday after June 20 and last until August 31. In 2026, the last day of the holiday falls on Monday. This means that students will return to school on Tuesday, September 1.
In 2019, the holidays started exceptionally earlier, on June 19. This was due to the fact that June 20 was Corpus Christi.
Will the holidays start earlier? A controversial idea emerged
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the idea of a permanent postponement to the date from mid-June to mid-August. Some teaching circles are calling for such solutions. This idea stems from climate change and the fact that powerful heat waves are starting earlier and earlier. Supporters of this idea argue that learning on hot days is of poor quality, and Polish schools are not adapted to operate in hot weather. Many schools have no air conditioning and the rooms are stuffy.
However, many people did not like the idea of postponing the holidays. Some of them indicate that the problem is not the problem itself, but the appropriate adaptation of schools to the changing climate. – We do not agree with the idea of the summer break starting in mid-June and the school year starting in mid-August. Changing the holiday date is not only a problem for schools. Currently, the entire tourism industry operates based on the July-August holiday system.
