As soon as the first spring sun peeks out, most garden owners panic at the sight of yellowed and thinned areas. But instead of immediately buying expensive rolls of ready-made turf, it is enough to understand the effective procedure that professional golf course managers call regeneration sow. What is it about?
Take care of the lawn, for example, according to the following video:
A rejuvenating treatment for the lawn
You may have heard of regenerative seeding, but many lawn owners still have no idea what it is. At the same time, it is essentially a rejuvenating treatment that thickens the green vegetation in such a way that the neighbors will only be quietly envious. The following advice will surely come in handy for you too.
The first and absolutely essential step, without which it makes no sense to throw a single seed into the ground, is a thorough cleaning of the existing “green”. This is called professionally scarification.
What is scarification?
We can imagine it as a deep intervention where we cut through grass felt. What is it? It is an impermeable layer formed by the remains of cut grass, moss and dead roots. This works as an invisible plastic that prevents water, air and nutrients from reaching the roots. Only when the lawn like this let’s air it out and we dig piles of dry material from it, we create ideal space for new seeds.
They don’t give way to weeds
Now comes the “secret formula” for successful landing. The magic is not in a miracle brand of seed, but in its correct selection and timing. For spring seeding, you should always choose a mixture marked as “restoration” or “for planting”. Such they are bred in such a way that they germinate very quickly and even aggressively compete with the old sod and possible weeds. If we used regular park seed, the old grass would probably suffocate the young, slow-growing plants before they could fully root. The ideal time occurs when the soil temperature will exceed at least eight degrees Celsius for a longer period of timewhich usually corresponds to mid-April.
Follow step by step
Once we have the seed selected, we need to provide for it perfect bed. It is a waste of money to scatter seeds just on the surface of dry compacted soil. After verticulation, experts recommend lightly sprinkling the entire area with siliceous sand or a fine lawn substrate. We then sow the seeds in a dose of approximately twenty to thirty grams per square meter. The follow-up is very important surface hardening – a light garden roller or pressing with a board is enough. Only in this way can the seed begin to absorb the moisture from the soil, which it needs for further life without discussion.
Water, water and water again…
But the process still does not end there. Following two to three weeks will decide everything. Newly sown lawn it must not dry for even an hour. The germinating plant is incredibly fragile at this stage, and a single day in the harsh spring sun without water spells its end. That’s why we have to it is better to water briefly, but ideally several times a day with a fine spray so that the seeds do not wash away. As soon as the new grass reaches a height of around eight centimeters, we can mow for the first time – but be careful: the mower blade must be perfectly sharpenedso that the still very young stalks do not pull their roots out of the ground.
A dense carpet without weeds
If we follow the right procedure, it will result a dense, deep green and additionally durable carpetwhich does not allow weeds to damage it. It is a dense growth the best herbicide in the world – simply leaves no room for dandelions or daisies to live. In the following months, the spring care will return to us in the form of a soft lawn, on which it will be a pleasure to walk with bare feet all summer long.
