The digital bank Nubank acquired this Friday (10) the naming rights for the Palmeiras stadium. As a result, the arena, known as Allianz Parque since its renovation in 2014, will undergo a name change, which will be defined by online voting. Faced with the news, the fans’ creativity took to the field and the internet was taken over by memes, transforming the announcement into yet another moment of pure online fun.
If football is one of the greatest expressions of Brazilian culture, good humor is not far behind. On the networks, internet users took advantage of the possibility of choosing the new name to fill social networks with puns, jokes and provocations between fans.
Rivals on the field, fans united in humor and no club emerged unscathed from the mockery. The news was also used for jokes involving other teams, such as the fact that Flamengo does not have its own stadium and Corinthians’ financial crisis.
Of course, the main joke involving Palmeiras was not left out, and the internet’s bet for the new name ended up becoming the now classic “Nu Tem Mundial”.
The bank itself did not go unnoticed and also became the target of memes, with jokes about possible account cancellations and customers dissatisfied with the institution’s connection with the team.
The relaxed atmosphere also opened space for criticism. Internet users questioned the practice of institutions including their names on football stadiums.
