Pedagogue and specialist in Educational Sciences Maria Emília Brederode dos Santos died this Saturday in Lisbon, aged 84, cancer victim. The news was confirmed by Expresso with a family source.
Born on March 21, 1942, in Campo de Ourique, Lisbon, she dedicated her life to education. Pedagogue, graduated in Educational Sciences, presided over the National Education Council between 2017 and 2022.
Maria Emília Brederode Santos fhi coordinator and co-author of the Citizenship Education curriculum proposal for Basic and Secondary Education (2010- 2011) and pedagogical director of the four series of the television program Rua Sésamo, broadcast on RTP between 1987 and 1997.
It also integrated the Honor Committee of the National Reading Plan and the General Council of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. Between 1997 and 2002, he presided over the Educational Innovation Institute of the Ministry of Education from 1997 to 2002.
Decorated with the Order of Public Instruction (Grande Officer degree, 2004), she received the Prize from Boston University’s General Alumni Association in 1994 and the Rui Grácio Prize from the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences in 1992.
