Small precautions make all the difference for a more uniform, beautiful finish with a professional effect
In makeup, lips are usually the protagonists. However, without preparation, even the most beautiful lipstick may not perform as it should. Dryness, hair and excess product are among the main causes of a uniform and long-lasting finish.
According to Chloé Gaya, makeup artist and artistic director at Jacques Janine, the secret is to treat the lips as part of skin preparation. “When your lips are well cared for, the lipstick fits better, doesn’t build up in lines and lasts much longer, even if you’re going to put it to the test on Kiss Day”, he jokes.
Next, check out how to incorporate this care into your makeup routine!
1. Start with lip care
Notice how your lips feel. Keeping your hydration up to date makes a huge difference in the finish of your hair. lipstickas dryness tends to show lines and hairs. Having a balm in your bag helps maintain softness throughout the day and guarantees an effortlessly beautiful look. If it’s one with color, it’s even more interesting, because you can use it everyday as makeup.
Os lip oils They are also great allies at this moment, as they combine treatment, comfortable shine and an immediate healthy effect for the lips. To enhance this care, or for moments with greater dryness, the lip mask can be used as an extra reinforcement, once or twice a week, promoting a more intense recovery of the region.

2. Exfoliation in the right amount
When there are visible hairs, exfoliation can be an important ally to even out the texture. However, excess can sensitize the region. It is best to do this process at most once a week, with light movements and gentle products. “The exfoliation needs to be delicate. The idea is to remove excess skin, not harm the lips”, advises the makeup artist.
3. Avoid excess product on your lips
Before applying lipstick, it is worth checking whether there are lipstick residues balm, gloss or other products accumulated on the lips. Excess can compromise staying power, causing the color to slide, smudge or accumulate in lines throughout the day. A light touch with a tissue or cotton will do the trick: the idea is to keep your lips soft and comfortable, but without appearance wet or slippery.

Lip pencil is one of the main allies for a more precise and long-lasting finish. The contour helps define the lips, prevents lipstick from running and maintains a more beautiful design throughout the day. As an extra tip, the pencil can also be used to gently fill in the entire lip before applying lipstick. This base creates more adhesion for the color, increases durability and ensures that the finish remains uniform even when the product starts to come out in the center. “The pencil works almost like a base for lipstick, helping to hold the color for longer”, explains the expert.

5. Choose the formula according to the desired effect
The choice of lipstick directly influences the result and resistance to friction. Matte and long-lasting formulas tend to transfer less, but require well-prepared lips, as they show any dryness. Creamy or shiny options are more comfortable and easier to apply, but require touch-ups throughout the day. The ideal is to balance the desired effect with the condition of the lips.

6. Application technique for a kiss-proof effect
If the idea is to bet on a makeup of truly kiss-proof lips, the combination between product and application makes all the difference. Long-lasting lipsticks with a matte finish tend to offer greater fixation and less transfer, but the way you apply it also influences the result. Instead of a thick layer at once, it’s worth building up the color little by little, with light layers, allowing the product to sit better on the lips and last longer.
Finishing with a light touch of a tissue to remove excess helps reduce transfer without compromising color intensity. “Thin layers adhere better to the skin and transfer less. Excess product is what hinders the most in this regard”, concludes Chloé Gaya.
