Lula suffers from the wear and tear that politics experiences due to corruption, says Edinho Silva

The national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, stated that the president of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), has had his popularity affected by cases of corruption revealed in various public spheres, such as the case of Banco Master, even though there is no proven direct relationship with the leader of the Executive. The statement was made in an interview with the program Free Channeland Band.

“This environment of corruption affects the government and of course President Lula pays a price for this erosion that politics is experiencing”, commented the PT president.

Edinho makes the statement in a scenario in which the positive assessment of President Lula’s government worsened from March to April, according to a survey by the Datafolha institute released on Saturday, 11.

The share of voters who classify the government as excellent or good fell from 32% to 29%. Among those who consider the current administration to be bad or terrible, the index remained at 40%. The regular assessment rose from 26% to 29%.

The information was collected through 2,004 interviews with Brazilian citizens over the age of 16 spread across 137 Brazilian cities between April 7, 8 and 9, 2026. The margin of error is plus or minus two points.

In the Northeast, Lula’s historical support base, Planalto also sees its popularity fall. Support for Lula in the region, which could be decisive in the outcome of the elections, went from 49% to 33% in February 2026, also in a survey by the Datafolha institute. Lula has the worst rating in the region of all his terms.

For this research, 2,007 voters were interviewed between February 10th and 11th, in 113 Brazilian cities. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points in the general category of the survey.

Still, Edinho says that Lula should arrive at the elections in a “more positive” scenario. He believes that, as time passes and the PT’s electoral campaign develops, society will begin to “see exactly what is happening”. “Research is a snapshot of the moment, it does not mean that we are going to June and July with this electoral scenario that the polls show. The facts are being decanted, society is beginning to see exactly what is happening and have access to information and understand, in fact, who is responsible for corruption and who is not.”
