Russia wants to maintain "pragmatic" relations with Hungary after Orbán's defeat

The Kremlin (Russian presidency) wants to maintain bilateral relations with Hungary, after Sunday’s elections in which Prime Minister and Moscow ally, Viktor Orbán, was defeated, after 16 years in power.

“Hungary made its choice. We respect that choice. We intend to continue our pragmatic contacts with the new Hungarian authorities,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said at a press conference.

Péter Magyar celebrates “overwhelming victory”

Peter Magyar’s opposition Tisza party won more than two-thirds of the seats in Hungary’s parliament in Sunday’s elections.

These results result in the country’s shift to the right, with Tisza obtaining a “super majority”, that is, more than two thirds of Hungarian deputies, which will allow it to change the Constitution.
