A senior military advisor to Iran’s supreme leader said on Monday (13) that the United States is doomed to failure in any naval blockade, following President Donald Trump’s threat to block the Strait of Hormuz.
“The United States, just as it suffered a historic defeat against Iran in trying to open the Strait of Hormuz, is also doomed to failure in any naval blockade,” said Mohsen Rezaee, former commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who came out of retirement to serve Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
Rezaee added that Iran’s military “will not allow such” and that its army has “significant yet untapped capabilities” to neutralize any threats.
Trump declared on Sunday night (12) that the ceasefire with Iran was “holding well” and that the US Navy would begin blocking the Strait of Hormuz. His comments came after lengthy negotiations with Iran failed to reach a deal, putting a fragile two-week ceasefire at risk.
Speaking to the press after disembarking from Air Force One, Trump stated that “very good things” were happening in relation to the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite having already been restricted by Iran, the strait is not technically closed – Tehran has gradually allowed some oil tankers to pass in exchange for a toll of up to $2 million per ship. And, importantly, Iran has allowed its own oil to flow in and out of the region during the war.
By closing the strait, the United States could cut off a key source of funding for Iran’s government and military operations.
“The blockade will be applied impartially against vessels of all nations entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman,” US Central Command said in a post on X.

According to the American government, ships that are not traveling to or from Iranian ports will be able to pass freely through the Strait of Hormuz, as the blockade “will not impede the freedom of navigation” of these vessels.
The announcement from US Central Command comes after Trump announced earlier today a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could increase the price of oil as Washington searches.
