“We can do something special”, says Slot about Liverpool x PSG in the Champions League

In the return leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The duel will be played at Anfield, where the English team is betting on its history of reactions to stay alive in the competition.

Current Premier League champions, Liverpool are experiencing an irregular season domestically. Eliminated from the national cups and occupying fifth place in the English league, the European tournament became the season’s main title chance.

Despite the advantage built in the first leg, PSG wasted opportunities that could have increased the score, keeping the match open.

Coach Arne Slot highlighted that the squad needs to maintain confidence, but recognized the difficulty of the challenge.

“We need to remember that. We know it was a different game, but that’s the result. We’ve already shown in big matches that we’re capable of great performances,” he said.

According to the coach, the team will have to reach a high level to advance against the current European champion.

“There is confidence that we can do something special, but we need to be really exceptional. We are facing the champion of Europe, which makes everything more difficult — but not impossible,” he said.

In the first leg, played at Parc des Princes, Liverpool adopted a more cautious stance, with a reinforced defensive line. For the second leg, Slot indicated that the team must maintain a competitive approach, without giving up putting pressure on the opponent.

The record at Anfield reinforces the English’s optimism. In 2019, the club reversed a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona with a 4-0 victory, in one of the biggest comebacks in the competition’s history.

For Slot, the support of the fans could be decisive again.

“The atmosphere at Anfield is as important as our performance. We need to be better than last week, and I believe the fans will make even more noise,” he concluded.
