The life of Brazilian indigenous activist Juma Xipaia is as exciting as an action film. At least in the documentation yanuni by the Austrian director Richard Ladkani, which will be released in cinemas next week and will open the Cine Latino Festival 2026 in Vienna’s Gartenbaukino on Thursday evening. The sold-out event will take place in the presence of illustrious guests: with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, who, as a Green, cares about the rainforest, as well as the director and the activist herself, who was appointed the first woman chief of her tribe at the age of 24 and was an employee in the first ministry for indigenous peoples, which was founded by Brazilian President Lula in 2023. On Friday both will appear in front of the audience again at the Cinema Paradiso in Baden, and on Saturday at the Vienna Filmcasino.
