For the president, the model prioritized in the previous government is only important for those who intend to pursue a military career
The president (PT) said this Tuesday (April 14, 2026) that Brazil “it is not necessary” of civic-military schools. The statement was made during the sanctioning of the new PNE (National Education Plan), at Palácio do Planalto.
“This here [o PNE] It is a portrait of what we managed to do. Not against, but to show that Brazil does not need, in its free public education, a civic-military school”he stated.
“The civic-military school is important when a girl or boy decides to pursue a military career”he said. For the PT member, in these cases, training must be specifically aimed at preparing for life in the Armed Forces.
The president declared that students from these schools should have access to the same content as others. He also defended full compliance with the plan’s guidelines, regardless of political parties or positions.
“We have a responsibility not to allow anyone, from whatever party, to not exercise what is foreseen in the National Education Plan”he stated.
Lula began his speech by quoting the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), who had spoken before him at the ceremony. He then contextualized the preparation of the plan after criticism about supposed indoctrination and what he called “guerra” in the educational sector.
“If you wanted a National Education Plan after a war fought for 4 years, accusing you of having a partisan school, saying that it was necessary to remove the parties from the schools, you achieved it”declared in reference to the government of the former president (PL).
Civic-military schools were a in the previous government. The Bolsonaro administration even created a Subsecretariat for the Promotion of Civic-Military Schools.
Finally, the president linked education to global competitiveness. He said that, in a more challenging international scenario, the country needs to invest in training to keep up with economic and technological disputes.
