Are orchids wilting? The expert advises a procedure that will return their flowers

Orchids that have bloomed are quite a sad sight. But throwing them away would be a big mistake. They don’t need much to bloom again. The experts have a clear plan – leave them almost alone and give them time.

When you get them or bring them from the store, they are so beautiful. Beautiful and majestic. Several whole weeks. But then and where there were elegant orchids, suddenly there are only bare stems. “If you want them to bloom again, and preferably many more times, take good care of them,” says Jana Bucharová, an expert in the magazine Recipe for garden topics.

Dry or green?

The first step is absolutely simple – deal with the fallen stems. Is it dry? Then cut it without mercy up to the leaf rosette. On the other hand, green stems are usually recommended to be cut only partially so that they can form again.

“If you decide to do it, cut after the third stitch from the ground,” recommends Jana Bucharová. But it is not always necessary. If the stems are very fresh, they will re-offend. The result will be an orchid blooming on several stems.

A little rest

But pruning is definitely not the only thing that orchids need to continue blooming. When all the flowers have fallen and you have cut the stems, if necessary, give them a rest. First, check the roots and if they don’t look healthy, give them fresh substrate.

Then move the plant to a bright place, but not in direct sunlight. Limit to once every two weeks at most and do not fertilize the orchid for the next few months. And don’t rush her. It is ideal if the orchid blooms once a year. You will enjoy it all the more.
