Rutte assures that the USA will remain in NATO: He told the allies that there is no danger of leaving even in a crisis!

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Mark Rutte rejected speculations about the possible withdrawal of the United States from the Alliance. He does not expect that to happen, TASR informs, according to the Saturday report of the DPA agency.

In an interview with Die Welt, he also emphasized that he considers the American nuclear umbrella to be the highest guarantee of security in Europe and expressed his belief that this commitment will continue in the future.

In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump’s statements, which he criticized, caused concern insufficient support from the allies in connection with the war against Iran. Rutte said after the meeting with Trump that the president was significantly dissatisfied with the attitude of several NATO member states.

Contentious topics were to include the use of military bases and planned operations to secure the Strait of Hormuz. Trump particularly criticized Spain, France and the United Kingdom. At the same time, Rutte called on Europe to strengthen the defense industry, which he described as crucial for maintaining the deterrent and defense capability of the Alliance.
