‘Bureaucratically bloated’: Principals unhappy with education reforms

Vienna – The educational reforms implemented in Austria in 2017 have, from the perspective of a large proportion of school management, brought more bureaucracy instead of quality. In the “School Management Barometer 2024”, half of the more than 2,200 principals surveyed saw a deterioration due to the reforms in teacher employment law, school administration, school supervision and quality management systems. Only 15 percent see clear improvements. The new teacher training is also not going well.
