The police charged three people after the Friday (April 17) attack on the intervening policemen and gendarmes in the village of Ostrovany in the Sabinov district. This was confirmed by Jana Ligdayová, spokeswoman of the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Prešov. She added that five people were detained in connection with the incident.
“After carrying out the necessary procedural actions, two persons were released from detention, three persons were charged with the crime of assaulting a public official on the basis of the evidence obtained,” the spokeswoman said, adding that the investigator of the District Directorate of the Police in Prešov is working intensively on the case.
The attack took place in the eveningwhen police officers together with members of the Gendarmerie Corps intervened in a conflict between residents of a local settlement. One of the policemen, who had facial injuries, and one of the gendarmes, who ended up in the Faculty Hospital with the JA Reiman Polyclinic in Prešov, were injured with a broken collarbone.
