Tourists were “trapped” at the top of Vidigal hill while police exchanged fire with armed drug traffickers

A group of tourists experienced moments of tension in Morro do Vidigal, in Rio de Janeiro, when they were prevented from leaving the area where they were due to a police operation.

On Monday morning, the police climbed the hill and began an exchange of fire with armed suspects, which led several people to seek shelter where they were, unable to descend safely.

The situation was recorded on video and quickly began to circulate on social media, showing the atmosphere of apprehension experienced by tourists, who were “stranded” at the top of the hill until it was possible to guarantee their safe exit.
