A group of approximately ten German tourists with children took away from a boat trip on the Adriatic Sea an experience they will never forget. Captain Zvonko Halimić originally wanted to treat his clients to a view of dolphins. On the way back, a huge surprise awaited them in the waters near the town of Pula. As reported by the Croatian portal, directly to the ship a gigantic giant shark approached.
The sea creature came so close to the vessel that the children excitedly reached out their hands to touch it. “No one was afraid, on the contrary. I’ve never seen so much enthusiasm in one place before.” the surprised captain described the situation. According to him, the sight of the shark was breathtaking, especially compared to the size of the ship itself. “Our boat is ten meters and that shark was huge. It was almost as big as a vessel,” he explained.
For Halimić, who has dedicated his entire life to the sea, it was a moment that does not happen even in the most daring fishing stories. “Faced with an 8-meter monster, this is no small thing. For ten years I made a living as a professional fisherman, now I work as a skipper (captain of a boat with a crew), but I met such a monster for the first time in my life. I’ve been at sea all my life and nothing like this has happened to me in 65 years,” the man admitted.
While the tourists pulled out their cell phones and cameras in amazement, he had to stay alert. “They definitely have better shots than me because I had to steer and make sure nothing happened.” he clarified. Keeping the boat at a safe distance from the 8-meter shark while the children were leaning overboard with excitement required utmost concentration.
The sea giant’s curiosity was so strong that he approached the vessel literally within arm’s reach. “The shark, thanks to its curiosity, came all the way to the ship, but did not touch it. Apparently the engine vibrations were bothering him, so I turned it off. We were just free sailing. The depth at that place was about 40 meters,” he described the technical details of the meeting.
The biggest spectacle came when the shark started feeding. “At one point I saw it open its gigantic mouth wide to swallow plankton. From this close it looked incredible and fascinating – like opening a huge refrigerator.” Halimić described this unique view.
In conclusion, the captain added that the German visitors received an unexpected gift from the Adriatic Sea, which exceeded their expectations many times over. “Foreigners had a real bonus on this tourist route,” he concluded contentedly. After ten minutes, the shark simply turned, dived and went into the depths. You can find the VIDEO below in the article.
