Berlin – With statements about the future of pensions, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has also sparked outrage among his coalition partner, the SPD. “The statutory pension insurance alone will at best be the basic security for old age,” said the CDU chairman in front of bank representatives in Berlin. In doing so, he started a new coalition dispute – two and a half months before the government wants to accept recommendations from its pension commission and tackle a major reform.
