The village of Salir, in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, once again hosts the Festa da Espiga, which this year celebrates its 59th edition between the 14th and 16th of May. The event, considered one of the most emblematic cultural events in the Algarve mountains, promises three days of entertainment, tradition and community interaction.

The presentation session featured speeches from local leaders, who highlighted the role of the community in continuing the festival. According to the participants, it is “an example of unity that allows a tradition with a strong local identity to be kept alive”.

The Festa da Espiga continues to establish itself as a structuring event for the appreciation of the cultural heritage of the Algarve interior.

Ethnographic parade is the highlight of the program

The main highlight of the program takes place on May 14th, with the traditional ethnographic parade, scheduled for 4:00 pm. The initiative recreates old activities linked to the local economy, such as bread making, medronho distillation or palm crafts.

Music, socializing and activities for all ages

The program also includes moments of musical entertainment, with shows and presentations throughout the three days. Friday afternoon will be dedicated to the elderly, while the evening focuses on proposals aimed at younger audiences.
